On Saturday April 22nd, SEAM members from across the state gathered to attend the annual Pre-Service Teachers Conference. Members from Bridgewater State University, Westfield State University, Salem State University, Holyoke Community College, Pine Manor College, Worcester State University, UMass Amherst, and UMass Boston were in attendance.

Guest speakers included Erik Champy (Vice President of the Massachusetts Teachers Association), Jo Ann Fitzgerald (Director, Grassroots Division at MTA), Members from the New Member Committee, and Bob Whalen (SEAM’s State Student Organizer/Retired Members Organizer).

The day consisted of several options for Professional Development workshops–topics included Students With Trauma, Including Music in the Classroom, Special Education, and Collaboration in the Classroom.

Members were able to network with each other, as well as advisers from other chapters during lunchtime table talks on a variety of conversation topics ranging from starting a chapter to combating student loan debt.

The Pre-Service Teacher Conference (PSTC) is put on annually by SEAM. This conference is completely planned by SEAM members for SEAM members. If you would like to assist in the planning process for the PSTC for 2018, please email Bob Whalen, SEAM’s State Student Organizer at rwhalen@massteacher.org
