While we are on the homestretch of the Spring semester (you can literally see the end on your syllabi!)–some campuses are down to their final few weeks, it’s important to remember that Spring is the most exciting time of year for SEAM. So why not cross a couple “To-Do” items off your list on this beautiful first day of Spring?
The first opportunity we for you is the annual Pre-Service Teacher Conference. The entire planning process for this event is done completely by SEAM members. This year, we have brand new, updated workshops that will provide you with invaluable professional development experiences. New workshop topics include working with students experiencing trauma, degrees not debt, and “Guitars in the Classroom”(a workshop in which you can learn how to implement music in the classroom and bring home your own Ukulele). Please register for this conference by April 14th. Flyer for this event is below.
The second opportunity is our Retired Member/Student Member Mentoring Program. This program was specifically created for SEAM members entering their Student Teaching portion of their program. SEAM applicants will be paired with Retired MTA Members who have not only remained up-to-date with the happenings in Education, but share the same major/desired licensure area of their SEAM Member Mentee. Funding for this program was provided by a National Education Association (NEA) Retired Organizing Grant. Piloting in the Fall, the program’s goal is to heighten one’s Student Teaching experience through collaboration and communication with an experienced Educator outside of your Practicum.
The application is a simple process, and will not take more than 10 minutes to complete. The deadline has been extended to the end of April. Flyer for this is below.
